Frequently Asked Questions

contain (verb): to keep within limits; to have within; to hold.
The word is the methodology. You do not fight AI, you contain it.

Top 5

Why does AI keep giving me inconsistent results even when I use the same prompt?

The prompt was never the problem. Without a methodology layer directing AI from a stable baseline, every session starts near zero and AI fills the gap differently each time. That is context drift, and better prompting won't fix it. The same intent produces consistent outputs only when there is something underneath the prompt holding the context steady: that is what contAIn™ builds.

We have been using AI for months and cannot see the productivity gains. What is missing?

The PwC 2026 AI Performance Study found that 74% of AI's economic value goes to 20% of organisations, and the differentiator isn't budget or model access. It is the governance foundation underneath the tools: the layer that puts humans above the AI loop and directs every tool toward a defined outcome. Without it, tools produce activity, not results. contAIn™ is that layer.

How do I stop my team using AI in twenty different directions and get consistent outputs?

Consistency across a team comes from a shared methodology underneath the tools, not a shared tool. When everyone briefs AI their own way on their own accounts, you get twenty versions of the truth with no way to govern any of them, and that creates a shadow AI problem. The strategic methodology layer that directs AI puts humans above the AI loop at every level: individual, team, and organisation. contAIn™ embeds your standards, constraints and defined outcomes into the AI architecture across the business so everyone operates from the same governed baseline.

Does the EU AI Act apply to my UK business?

For most UK organisations operating domestically, no. The EU AI Act governs EU markets and has extraterritorial reach only if you operate in the EU. What applies to you is already in force: UK GDPR and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, the Equality Act, employment law and the sector regulators. Together they require genuine human oversight of AI: a named person with the authority, information and capacity to override what AI produces. Genuine human oversight is a methodology layer, not a webinar. For more information or to book a consultation contact [email protected].

What is contAIn™?

contAIn™ is the strategic methodology layer that directs AI and puts humans above the AI loop. It gives you the layer that directs every AI platform, tool, agent or application you use toward the outcome you have defined. It is the human operating system for the AI era, with you in the operator's seat. Not a prompt library or a traditional course. It's a methodology, and a methodology compounds, improves and gets better with time because you can measure it.

What contAIn™ is and is not

What problem does contAIn™ solve?

Most of the AI market assumes you already have a strategy. Every prompt library, course, agent and automation assumes you already know what you are building toward, who is in charge, and what done looks like. Without that layer, your AI has no way to self-correct or flag when it is drifting. contAIn™ defines and stabilises the system underneath the tools.

I have tried every AI tool and none of them work the way I need. What am I doing wrong?

Probably nothing a different tool would fix. The Trustmarque AI Governance Index 2025 found 93% of UK organisations are running AI and only 7% have the governance to support it. The gap isn't skill and it isn't the tool. It is the absence of a methodology layer that tells AI what it is working toward. You have more than likely been sold tools without the system that makes them work together. contAIn™ is that system.

Is contAIn™ a course, a tool, or a methodology?

A methodology. In the same way that Business Process Improvement works on the principle that measurement is the first step that leads to control and eventually to improvement. A prompt library or webinar won't achieve that.

A course teaches a tool at a point in time and expires when the tool changes. A methodology gives you the decision-making layer that works across any tool, now and in the future. Think of it like driving: you take lessons so you can drive any car, to get it to a destination you need an end point, so think of contAIn™ as your AI sat-nav.

Who is contAIn™ for?

Business owners, professionals, and organisations already using AI or about to. It is designed for non-technical people. You don't need to understand how AI works, but you do need to know what you want it to do, and make sure it does that consistently, in a way that reflects who you are and what your business does.

Do I need to be technical to use contAIn™?

No. If you can brief a colleague, you can brief AI. contAIn™ starts where you are, how you think, how you work, what you are trying to build, and creates a system around that.

Getting real results from AI

How do I make sure AI produces outputs that reflect my business, not generic content?

Generic output is the default. It is what AI produces when nothing tells it who you are or what you stand for. The fix isn't a better prompt each time, although good prompts do help, it is a methodology layer that governs what your AI is permitted to produce, in your voice, within your constraints, toward outcomes you have defined. The more you use contAIn™, the more precisely the output reflects you instead of sounding like everyone else.

What is the difference between AI governance and AI methodology?

Governance is the rules: what is allowed, what is logged, who is accountable. Methodology is how you actually direct AI day to day so those rules are met in practice. A policy nobody has the method to apply is a principle with nothing underneath it. contAIn™ is the methodology layer that makes governance real: accountability you can actually evidence, not just a policy document nobody reads.

What does contAIn™ produce?

A system that is yours. Not a template someone else designed, built around how you think, how you communicate and how you make decisions. Platform agnostic by design: it transfers to any AI system. The more you use it, the more precisely it reflects you and your business. It's like that really old employee that just knows everything, methodology compounds: it doesn't break when someone leaves.

What is digital amnesia and how does contAIn™ fix it?

Digital amnesia is what happens when you open a new AI session and start near zero. Even when memory features are enabled, they can only remember what you have given them. No system means the AI is memorising chaos. contAIn™ fixes digital amnesia by giving you the methods to hold your sessions together, so your AI starts working from the system you have built.

What is a human operating system for AI, and why do I need one?

It is the layer that sits above your AI and directs it: what it is permitted to produce, on whose authority, within what limits, toward what defined outcome. contAIn™ is that operating system. Without one, every tool, platform and agent you use could be working from a different version of you or your business every session.

What does "humans above the AI loop" mean in practice?

You set the direction, the constraints and the defined outcome before the AI starts, then direct it from a governed position. Being in the loop is the opposite: reviewing outputs, catching errors, correcting drift, feeding corrections back in. That is maintenance, not control. contAIn™ puts you above the loop so you decide what good looks like and the AI works toward it.

Teams and organisations

Does contAIn™ work for organisations, not just individuals?

Yes. At individual level, AI is configured around the specific person: their seniority, domain expertise, decision-making standards. At organisational level, the company's values, vision and governance standards are embedded into the AI architecture across the business. This requires a diagnostic session to find out where you are and where you want to be and Enterprise is by application only. Contact [email protected].

How is contAIn™ different from AI literacy training?

AI literacy training gives your people a baseline, it might tell them what AI is and does. It doesn't give them a system. The gap between "I understand AI" and "my people know what they must not put into it and why" is where risk accumulates quietly. contAIn™ is what comes with the literacy layer: the process that means your people know what to put into AI, why, and can evidence they were shown where the line is. More importantly it shows them what NOT to put into AI and the consequences of shadow AI or personal data input in the business.

What is shadow AI and why does it matter?

Shadow AI is what happens when people use AI on personal accounts you didn't provision, haven't reviewed, and can't see. If they paste in client information, internal strategy, HR case notes or commercially sensitive correspondence because the tool was available and the task was urgent, that is shadow AI. It isn't recklessness, it is the common behaviour of people handed a powerful technology with no framework for using it. The risk is invisible until it is not. contAIn™ makes shadow AI visible and governable.

We already have an AI policy. Why isn't that enough?

A policy tells people what they should do. It does not tell you what they are actually doing, and regulators increasingly want evidence that governance works in practice, not a policy on paper. That is the gap a policy on its own cannot close. The contAIn™ CRASH diagnostic is the half-day assessment that surfaces how AI is really being used across your organisation, measures it against the seven things regulators expect you to prove, and gives you a board-ready plan with a named person accountable for it. A policy is the statement of intent. contAIn™ is the methodology layer that makes it real and gives you the evidence you can show.

Who should own AI governance, HR, IT or legal?

In most organisations no single function owns it, which is exactly why shadow AI grows in the gap. IT owns the tools, legal owns the risk, HR owns the people who actually use it, and AI sits across all three. The contAIn™ principle is Authority: a named person who directs the AI and answers for what it produces. The CRASH diagnostic establishes who that is and gives them the methodology layer to govern from, so accountability sits with a real person above the loop rather than nowhere.

Framework, levels, research

What is the C.O.N.T.A.I.N. framework?

The seven-discipline methodology at the core of contAIn™. Each discipline deepens as the complexity of your work demands. The sequence matters: you can't skip steps. The methodology is the sequence, not the prompt, not the tool. For more detail contact [email protected].

Is there research behind contAIn™?

Yes. Thousands of hours in production use across multiple live projects and a research paper born out of some of the failures. "The Feed Loop: How AI-Generated Governance Documents Amplify the Patterns They Were Designed to Suppress" is the academic preprint documenting the core mechanism contAIn™ is designed to address. Published on Zenodo and SSRN. DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20474271. ORCID: 0009-0000-5439-3645.

contAIn™ is a UK registered trademark.

Who built contAIn™ and why?

Samantha Maeer, as in me. I built it because at the time there was nothing on the market that could deliver the accuracy and consistency I needed, and I found that out the hard way. When AI arrived, the market was selling prompts, which were of no use to me, nobody was building the layer between the human and the machine, so I built it. Thirty years of international project delivery across multiple industries, and it took me months to get it to do what I wanted. The failures are documented, thousands of them, and that has allowed me to build it from the ground up, the proof is in the projects. You are reading this on a website built entirely using AI, and I'm not technical!
